Crimetime Gotland

Sweden’s new Crime Festival – August 17–20, 2016

During 17-20 August 2016, one week after the Medieval Week Festival, it will be time for the second annual crime and thriller writers’ festival – Crimetime Gotland.

Gotland is now Sweden’s new venue catering for detective-story aficionados, holiday readers, suspense-hungry adults and children interested in intrigue and suspense.

Lasting four days, patrons will be able to meet and mingle with their favourite crime writers, attend; seminars, creative writing courses, excursions, films and theatre, solve crime stories, drink crime-themed cocktails, undertake murder-themed tours and much, much more.

The festival’s programme comprises over 150 items and 50 participating authors from Sweden, Scandinavia, the UK and the US. Owing to the festival’s international character, almost half of the festival’s program items will be available in English.

Authors with strong ties to Gotland, such as Håkan Nesser, Anna Jansson, Mari Jungstedt and Hakan Ostlund, will naturally be in attendance.

The festival will be held at various venues of the World Heritage Town of Visby, including Wisby Strand Congress and Event, Clarion Hotel Wisby, Donners Hotel and Almedalsbiblioteket (the Uppsala University Library’s Gotland campus).

The event will be held among the centrally located and beautiful of Almedalsparken, a park where patrons can attend the CrimeTimes’ family stage, a dedicated festival bookstore for book signings and enjoy food and drink.

Kicking off on Wednesday, August 17, the festival opens with among other things, an opening mingle, a writing workshop, meetings with crime writers and continues on until Saturday evening 20 August.
